The A6M Rei Shiki Sento Ki (meaning Type Zero fighter) was the result of an order by the Imperial Japanese Navy for a low-wing monoplane with superior speed, range, climbing powers, and manoeuvrability. It famously served as a fighter escort during the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, and ended the war as the kamikaze plane of choice. This book provides a detailed guide to modelling this popular aircraft across a variety of scales, and features an A6M2-N Rufe, a kamikaze A6M5c, an A6M2 model 21, and a captured A6M5b of TAIC #7, as well as a gallery and walkaround section.

Review
“This was a fun fast read for me. It has all the content you would expect written in a light conversational style. If you build the A6M or plan to, this book should be on your research list. If you build WWII Japanese aircraft there is ample information on weathering and painting that this book will definitely help you out.” ―Scott Lodder, AeroScale
“Osprey's Modelling series is an expanding and wonderfully beneficial resource for modelers and historians alike. I am thrilled the Zero has its own book, and I look forward to utilizing the many new ideas this book so ably demonstrates. I am certain all modelers of the A6M Reisin in particular, and Imperial Japanese air enthusiasts in general will find this book a great value.” ―Fred Boucher, Aeroscale
“My favorite thing (besides humility, a great attitude and a fun writing style): one of the only successfuly scale attempts I've seen to gate, to duplicate the many wrinkles or waves of stressed sheet metal surfaces... Highly recommended--even to guys like me, who only rarely build models with props.” ―Ward Shrake, Internet Modeler (April 2008)
About the Author
Brian Criner became interested in modelling at the age of nine when his grandfather bought him a model of a P-51 and told him he would receive a silver dollar if he built it for him. His interest has remained strong ever since. Brian currently works as a biology teacher in a small high school in southern California. This is his first book for Osprey Publishing.

A must for any fan of the Zero
By Stephen Spence
This is a very informative and helpful book for the beginning modeler and especially the advanced modeler, who wants to take their skills up a notch or two. I enjoyed seeing some actual photos of real Zeros that are being refurbished as empirical reference. With each model, Mr. Criner provides a recipe of exactly what paints (color codes), and after market accessories were used. It was fun seeing him review kits of the Zero in all the available scales from the big 1/32 down to the tiny 1/144. His steps and clear techniques take a lot of the mystery out of getting a beautiful accurate model. As a bonus, Mr. Criner provides a glossy page of colored swatches used for all his builds. You can cut this out and keep it on your workbench as a quick reference. My only complaint would be the rather small size pictures as many of them are "scaled photos". I wish all or most were blown up to around 4x6 for those of us who need reading glasses. Otherwise, I can highly recommend this book if you are interested in modeling the Zero.
