Warning; You May Not Like What You Hear.

I have been wanting to read this since I first heard of it. The book is a bit dated, the copyright date is 1975, but the basic premise is clearly laid out. It will be seen as too doctrinaire by many and many others may find the books main theme even offensive. The authors explore the basic background of U.F.O. sightings and look at various different aspects of what is happening according to mainstream scientific methods as well as the prevailing extraterrestrial hypothesis. The result is, not one theory can account for the bewildering array of events that have been reported, including ancient events and the "Great Airship Flap " of 1896-97. Their theory, U.F.O.s are extra dimensional beings that are above our conventional scientific under standing and are also explainable through the biblical descriptions of Fallen Angels and demons. This may seem far- fetched to many but the authors give evidence both biblical and from filed eye witness testimony to affirm or deny their theory on a case by case basis. They also examine the growing influence of interest in the occult and occult related phenomena related to interest in or following sightings of U.F.O.s. It is an informative book and one that may unsettle a number of people.

Thoughtful look at UFO's from a different viewpoint.

Although this book is well over 20 years old, it has some very interesting information. I first read this book almost 10 years ago and found its explanaiton of the UFO phenom. refreshing. The appendix is filled with scientific information that help one understand the topic presented. If you read this book and keep reminding youself how old it is you can better appreciate it. I wish there were more current books like it. The best recent book like it that I can recommend is "Alien Encounters" by Chuck Missler and Mark Eastman, which I recommend if you are seeking a different view of UFO's.

For those wondering what exactly the Liberty Tuning is

Harvey Reid has long been one of my favorite folk or fingerstyle guitarists and folk singers. He is a true master of all kinds of stringed instruments like the guitar, banjo, 12-string, even the autoharp. I've seen him in concert twice and first bought a CD of his in the mid 80's. Now this Liberty thing is a cool system for quickly altering the guitar with a capo (well a special partial capo on only 3 strings) and teaching someone to be able to play the guitar with only two fretting fingers. I don't know if it's obvious or not but this is just a vastly easier way to play chords then having to use 3 or 4 fingers that most chords require. So you're thinking this could be very limiting, as most other re-tunings turn out to be, but Reid has recorded a few very accomplished albums showing plenty of sophisticated fingerstyle playing in various keys all on the same Liberty tuning. Essentially all the chords you would ever really need to play in most keys can be played with only the two fingers.

Obviously, the Liberty chord fingerings are completely different from standard chords and notation, which is what you really need the book for - Reid has worked out all the chords. So if you want to play the guitar in the standard way eventually, you will have to re-learn everything. I don't think that should put anyone off, as that's true of any simpler instrument, like if you start on a ukulele, all the chords are completely different from a guitar. You can play just about anything having chords as long as you have a Liberty chord table. But Mr Reid also as written a number of books with songs and tunes that work well with the system. I would probably say it's well worth it to buy a book or two along with the capo when getting into the system.

The other cool thing is that kids don't have to reach as far up the neck of the guitar - all fingering is done after the capo at the 4th fret so its easy to reach. So use a regular old guitar and you don't have to buy a special small kid's guitar that they will never want to play when they outgrow it.

If you're curious - here's HOW TO TUNE A GUITAR TO THE LIBERTY TUNING: As stated, you need one of Mr. Reid's partial capos that cleverly barre off 3 and only 3 strings. Starting with the standard tuning EADGBE, first just re-tune the B string up to C. Then put the partial capo on the neck at the 4th fret, across the D, G, B (now C) strings.

And no, any regular capo that I've ever seen will not work, as you are barring off strings in the center and leaving the low and high strings alone.

Actually I guess there is an alternate Liberty tuning, and other tunings, that barre off 4 strings or something, and these Flip 34 capos can be flipped over to barre off 4 strings. The world of partial capos is deeper than just the Liberty method, but that's a whole other story.

A totally new, affordable system that will efficiently expand your guitar repertoire

Absolutely the way to go if you aren't willing or able to devote long hours of study and practice to becoming a proficient guitar player! I am an advanced intermediate (30+ years) player, and am always willing to explorer new ways to make music. This method is an efficient and achievable way to play many popular and traditional songs using a partial capo. It is like shorthand for the fretboard, and will increase your playing enjoyment exponentially in proportion to the minimal time you devote to it. No additional musical knowledge or training necessary, other than familiarity with a guitar. Clearly explained and illustrated by Harvey Reid, who has been playing and providing guitar insights for over 40 years. Well worth the small cost, it is a self-contained and effective system.

Why the beach is so soothing

I always knew there was something special about living on an island, surrounded by the calming sounds of lapping waves. This book explains it.

Nichols writes that our brains are hardwired to react positively to water. He combines water science and neuroscience to show exactly that. He defines the “blue mind” as a mildly meditative state characterized by calm, peacefulness, unity, and a sense of general happiness and satisfaction with life. It is inspired by water and the sensations associated with it. “...[W]ater provides the most profound shortcut to happiness out there.”

He explores our emotional ties to water, explains the technology of brain study, contemplates what happiness is and how it is evaluated, looks at the affect of the color blue and the other sensations of water. He explores the recreational use of water and the health benefits of water, including its therapeutic use for PTSD, drug addiction and autism. He explains the Red Mind and the Gray Mind – enlightening.

Blue Mind is not a dry science book. Nichols includes lots of stories as examples of his thesis. Some of the findings are subjective and anecdotal and the stories help illustrate them.

The application of Nichols' book is broad, all the way from health benefits to urban planning. He is also concerned about the future of water and ends his book with a reminder of our emotional attachment to it and the need to make sure it is there for the future.

Now I know why there are aquariums in waiting rooms and why you should put a small one on your work desk. I know what it means if someone gives me a blue marble. I also now know the science behind why I love the water so much, especially the beaches of my island home.

You'll learn much you don't know and you need to pay close attention if you are struggling with a health crisis of some sort.
Everything Dr. Nichols discusses... you want to ask:How can I apply this cutting edge knowledge to what I am facing in my own life? Or to what I see loved ones facing?
Dr.Nichols connects many dots in this field of exploding scientific progress and discovery but you will need to complete what this book can do for you personally... as a healing masterpiece.
My background is medical so healing is major in my world.
I believe this book has so much to offer and I encourage you to share what you learn... knowledge,insights... with others you know and care about.

I seem to be happiest when I am in the warm ocean water off ...

I live in Jamaica on the beach in the summer and spend a lot of time in southern California in the winter, near the ocean. I have always had a hard time articulating why I find those locales so relaxing and invigorating at the same time.

I seem to be happiest when I am in the warm ocean water off Jamaica, swimming out a couple of hundred yards to get away from the beach noise. staring at the clouds, watching the world walk down the beach.

I first enjoyed this book in High School, many years ago; heroic fantasy was always my favorite. The descriptive wordage and complex usage of long lost adjectives was a challenge but it made for the savory aspect of reading his work. Anyone interested in the lure of lost worlds should avail themselves of Clark Ashton Smith. This volume is a must read for anyone reading this genre of books. It would be great to see this work transposed to film... maybe not. But I recall the various visions and images of these ancient continents and characters and will forever be anamored of this style that very few writers have ventured to master. Thank you Smith!
