a great read

What a rush! Grace has definitely launched this series with a flair that's got me dying for more. She puts together a complete and charming tale within the pages of this book and does so with flair. I love the way that she develops the mythology behind this tale. It was so intricate yet didn’t overpower the forward motion of the plot. Lots of laughs populate the pages as the characters come to know one another and get up to speed with their situation. The characters were priceless and endearing, creating a bond that invited me into this world. I enjoyed the way that the dialogue varied from character to character, showing just how different their backgrounds really were.

This author is a perfect go-to for a quick read that will leave you sizzling. Or, dive in for the whole series for a weekend read. The overall premise for the series that Grace has presented here definitely has me hooked.

Westa "Lucky" Lucidine has excellent luck after a life changing incident years ago. Sometimes, her winning streak and good deeds land her in major trouble. This time it's more than luck when she stumbles into Henry Inlough, an Elfin knight of the Wild Hunt.

For the past 300 years, there has been a struggle to bring magic back into the world. The Wild Hunt has been chosen to be the Guardians of the few that have this gift, which ticks off the Light Elves, who are anything but sugar and spice to mortals.

Getting Lucky is a funny, wickedly paced read. The characters are very likeable from the start. Lucky and Henry compliment one another, and they enjoy matching wits. The Light Elves are depicted as vain, corrupt beings, which is an interesting change.

Getting Lucky is the first book of the Sisters of Silverwood series with just the right amount of intro to tickle my interest. Ms. Grace has a knack for writing fantasy stories with quirky twists in all the right places. By the time I finished reading this story, I knew I had struck gold again--and so will you if you decide to give this book a chance.

About the Author
Barbara Taylor Bradford was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, and was a reporter for the Yorkshire Evening Post at sixteen. By the age of twenty she had graduated to London's Fleet Street as both an editor and columnist.

In 1979, she wrote her first novel, A Woman of Substance, and that enduring bestseller was followed by 12 others: Voice of the Heart, Hold the Dream, Act of Will, To Be the Best, The Women in His Life, Remember, Angel, Everything to Gain, Dangerous to Know, Love in Another Town, Her Own Rules and A Secret Affair.

Of these titles, ten have been made into television miniseries or are currently in production. Her novels have sold more than 56 million copies worldwide in more than 88 countries and 38 languages. Barbara Taylor Bradford lives in New York City and Connecticut with her husband, film producer Robert Bradford.

What a disappointment!!!

What happened to the Barbara Taylor Bradford I am familiar with? This must be a ghost writer using her name, because it fell flat of her usual work. Before I knew what was happening,- "BAM" the two main characters were together without a proper send in. But I stuck with it hoping there would be more. The more was just a waste of time. Even by the middle of story I was waiting for something to happen but it never did. This story had such potential, too bad that potential wasn't developed. I am convinced that this book was made in a hurry for sales reasons only. Please don't insult a seasoned romance readers' intelligence by publishing such nonsense. A real turn off to a faithful Bradford reader.

I rated this book as 1 star because that's the least that's allowed by amazon. I picked up this book because it is supposed to be a Newyork times bestseller. Now I have realized that picking books that are so called bestsellers is no guarantee of a good read.

The book is amateurish, silly, syrupy, incomplete, devoid of a plot, and has a sudden, miserable ending.

Three things left me puzzled and incredulous:

1. How could a respectable author submit this book as a completed work,

2. How could any publishing house worth it's name publish this pathetic piece of ineptitude,

3. How this apology of a book became a Newyork times bestseller.

One of the worst books I've read in a while!

I just wanted a good book to curl up with on a cold Florida evening. Reading "A Secret Affair" was a poor choice and a great disappointment. It is a short book -- 260 pages of relatively large print and 32 of those pages serve the purpose of only identifying a new chapter. Much of the book was filled with descriptions of Sarajevo, Venice, Beirut, and various homes and hotels, all of which did little to further the plot. Character development was week and left me looking for more. The book seemed disjointed, simplistic, unrealistic, and a waste of my time and money.

Excellent Product!

I bought the first volume when it came out and I was blown away by the quality of the photos, the presentation and all the revelant info that is found in this magazine.Plus you only get pictures, no ads or anything unrelated.

I bought the second volume also and I wasn't disapointed and I'm eagerly waiting for the 3rd volume to come out.

If you're a fan of anything that is military or law enforcement related, you must get your hand on it, you won't regret it!

Very indepth

I have ordered this magazine since it was first available. Very easy payment (on their site) and very fast delivery (Europe).
The reason I ordered the magazine was that I wanted to see how special operations units operate and what kind of gear the different (!) units all around the world use.

All in all it provides a very good in-depth look on how Operators exercise for scenarios and how they are equipped.
I'm currently waiting for the third issue to come out and I'm very satisfied with the overall quality this magazine provides (~400 pages, no ads, high-quality photographs, short but informative texts around the photos and a longer overview for the units in the magazine)

Worth picking up

I checked out the first issue of Flashbang on the recommendation of a guy who knew the publisher/photographer of the magazine. I'd previously seen his work in other military and law enforcement related magazines, such as RAIDS, Kommando, Assault, etc., and enjoyed it.

While Flashbang is classified as a magazine, it's more like a softcover coffee table book, as it come with a hard stock embossed cover. The front of which lists the three units covered in the issue. The book is 160 pages with approximately 400 high quality photos inside, no adds, and very few captions. The captions that are provided briefly describe the unit's purpose, organization, and history, as well as a few additional comments on some the training they undergo. The book itself is broken down into a table of contents, an author's introduction, and three sub-sections covering one particular elite military or police unit. The photos in each section provide details of the equipment used as well as the typical training routine the units engage in on a day-to-day basis.

I like the layout, selection of photos, and production values of the book, and recommend it to those who are interested in military or law enforcement subjects. The one tiny complaint I have is that I would actually like to see a few additional captions to give some context to some of the photos, and not everyone reading the book may be familiar with what's taking place in a particular set of photos.
