Great storytelling and instructional at the same time!

All I can say is WOW! This book is pure artistry! I didn't realize that William Redfield, was a man of so MANY talents but he was. I have loved him as an actor since I was a kid and as an adult I look back on all of those performances and appreciate them even more from my 51 year old perspective. He was an actor who studied, took his profession seriously, and didn't get any easy breaks despite that handsome face of his. It appears (although I didn't know him personally of course) that he worked as long as he could even being so ill. He is a personal hero of mine. I can't imagine what it was like to work being ill and I know there aren't many actors who take this work as seriously as he did. From the moment I started reading this book I was truly mesmerized. He has the ability to bring all of this to life. In reading this I felt like I was in the room with Liz and Dick, that I was at rehearsals with all of them, that I was sitting watching Sir John attempt to direct his very strong actors! I feel like I've discovered a new friend -- William Redfield -- because it feels as you read this like he is talking directly to you. That is a GIFT! Not all writers are good writers even when they're published and not all writers can make you feel as if you are THERE with them, in the moment, experiencing it all. I've participated in college and community theater as an actor -- nothing like his experiences of course -- but I can really, really relate to most all of what he is saying here. Again, WOW. We miss you Mr. Redfield. Thanks for sharing your many gifts with us.

One of the best theatre books ever

I can do nothing more than echo the praise of the other reviewers. This very personal account of the rehearsal process and out-of-town tryout of the 1964 Broadway production of "Hamlet" that starred Richard Burton and was directed by John Gielgud is truly fascinating. William Redfield was a superb actor who could also write well, even though there are a handful of passages that perhaps should have been edited out.
I don't know of any book that gives you a better feeling of what it's like to be in rehearsal and trying to piece together a performance as everyone around you is trying to do the same. Redfield's account of a group of major actors--apart from Redfield and Burton, the cast included Alfred Drake, Hume Cronyn, Eileen Herlie, John Cullum, George Rose, George Voskovec, and Barnard Hughes--working under a director of undoubted genius who is somehow not really helping anyone much definitely makes you feel what it must have been like to be part of that.
If you're an actor, a director, or just love theatre, you will probably find this book fascinating.

Dani and Mason immediately draw you into their story and world of shape shifters. Dani is a feisty independent wolf shifter who has ran into problems with the local hunters. Mason is a man who is most definitely all Alpha and determined to protect not only those in his pack but ones like himself.

Right from the start I drawn to Dani and Mason and the passion that sizzled between them from the first time they meet. Dani has always been a loner and never had the love of a pack or family behind her except for her best friend Alisha who has caught the eye of Mason's second in command Phil.

If you like hot sex, strong alpha's and feisty women not mention a hint of danger all rolled into one story then I highly recommend Adaline's paranormal erotic romance. You won't be disappointed.

This is a gr8 story & I enjoyed it very much . Dani is a female alpha shifter, who is a lone shifter & having trouble with hunters. Mason is the alpha from a nearby pack & wants to claim & protect her, but she's afraid. This book is well written & very hot. I think this new writer is going to go a long way.

When Tanjlisa Marie isn't spending her time searching for fairies (which always turn out to be lightning bugs), she earns her living as a secretary for the federal government. Thinking of the future reading habits of her two young boys, Tanjlisa Marie first got the idea to write the saga, CODENAME FAIRY GODMOTHER, when she realized there were not a lot of young adult novels for both genders to enjoy. Fascinating New World

This first-time author has come up with a fascinating world filled with fairies the likes of which you've never read about before. All of the fairies but two are Wish Granters (Fairy Godmothers). The other two are Huntresses, one of whom is Agent Thunder, the main character in "Reassigned." And all these creatures are ruled by the Queen Mother.

Agent Thunder is the Lisbeth Salander (referring to "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") of the Fairy World: she's tenacious, hard-edged, tough, loveless, and a loner.

When she encounters Ciaran Darcy, the last leprechaun in existence, a series of events is unleashed that could cause such tragedy and sorrow in the Fairy Godmother world that Agent Thunder is reassigned, and becomes a Wish Granter - much to her chagrin.

But the leprechaun, whom we discover is her soul-mate, is never far from her, and the book climaxes with a battle between the two. Since this is book one of a series, I won't be giving anything away when I say that Agent Thunder survives to fight again another day.

I wanted to really like this book. And there were many reasons to do so.

First, the author has put a great deal of thought into the world she's created for the Fairy Godmothers, and it's an amazing planet. Their powers, abilities, lifestyles, and even their fashion sense are all described in loving detail: so much so that you can really "see" them in your mind's eye.

It wasn't hard to tell when the author was writing the scenes/chapters that mattered most to her: they almost jump off the page.

By far the best chapter in the book is Thunder's meeting with the Fairy Godmother, Matai. It was obviously one of the author's favorite chapters, it was so well written and full of life, portent, and angst.

I loved all the chapters that took place on her planet, Platherus. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the characters there, especially the Queen Mother and the Pixie that's assigned to Agent Thunder. Later, when Solaris is "translating" pixie-ish for Thunder, I can see the whole thing like a movie it's THAT well described.

The best character in the book? Definitely little Solaris Hubbard. She's beautifully portrayed, and who wouldn't want to know her and protect her? Again, it's not hard to detect which parts of the book were the author's favorites because they're so well done.

Agent Thunder's first assignment as a Wish Granter was another great visual, and a lot of fun to read.
I had a hard time deciding what this book is meant to be: love story? Good vs Evil story? And the author made it even more confusing by not knowing herself, and that's where this book breaks down.

The main "love" interest, Ciaran Darcy (the Leprechaun), was so abusive, violent, and just plain evil that Thunder's attraction to him never made any sense to me. He was meant to be charismatic and tempting, but he was just plain sadistic.

Thunder's initial attraction to him might have made sense, but early on in their "relationship" she learns just how truly evil Ciaran is. Once she knows this, given her character, I would think that the rest of her mission in the story would be to destroy him before he destroys not only her, but the rest of her planet, and a human she's grown to care about.

I found the story very one-sided when it came to the portrayal of males: all were shown to be lecherous, vain, violent, and/or stupid. This gender-bias, along with the violence, the objectification of women (`The ex-Huntress now realized she had been the ultimate weapon all this time, just using the wrong weaponry' when examining herself in the mirror and noticing her sexuality for the first time), Agent Thunder's continued longing for the abusive, sadistic Darcy, along with some lesser legal issues like minors drinking makes me wonder if this book can really be classified as Young Adult.

As for Agent Thunder's continued attraction to Ciaran Darcy: I just didn't get it, and the entire "romantic" premise ruined the story for me. There can be no romance or love where abuse, violence, and outright murder are involved. If the author were to throw out the "love story" between Darcy and Thunder, and make them immortal enemies, this book would rock.

As it is, the last couple of chapters almost make it laughable, and I seriously doubt that's what the author intended. When Thunder thinks to herself, `Her poor, handsome, misunderstood Ciaran,' I wanted to scream. And when Thunder says, "Sure he was a confused, sociopathic, masochistic, sadistic murderer..." and then basically says `but hey, aren't we all?' I laughed out loud. Again, not what the author wanted to happen, I'm sure.

Finally, although I realize this is the first of a series, I still wanted a final chapter that dealt with Thunder's relationship with little Solaris.

I think Ms. Marie has a wonderful ability to conjure up new, fascinating worlds for us to see. With some time for her writing to gain maturity, and some work at learning how to deepen characterizations, I believe her stories will shine.

When you make a deal with a Fairy Godmother you have until your thirty second birthday to "pay it forward" if not then that is where Agent Thunder comes in to send the unfortunate person to a fate worse than Hell. But when Agent Thunder runs into a Leprechaun she is reassigned by the Queen Mother for her own protection, until Ciaran, the Leprechaun tracks her down.

So you may think this is your average fantasy novel, but you would be extremely mistaken. Thunder is a fighter first and foremost with a no nonsense approach to the human race. I loved when she began working with the children granting their wishes at first she is flummoxed and then she bullies the children into taking five minutes tops, when you add this hilarious aspect to the high powered action then combine the science fiction aspect to the story you have a truly exceptional novel with a little bit of everything for everyone. The only problem I had was that the romance seemed to be a bit lackluster, the author focuses more on her relationship with a particular child and less on her budding romance with Ciaran, which is fine by me it just doesn't make the final storyline as powerful as it could be. That being said the rest is golden and worth the read.

Kick Butt

When I first received this book for review I was totally excited as I am a total fairie fanatic. I started reading and thought wow this is a cool book then I hit a spot that was even to fairy foo foo for me. I am a total girly girl most of the time but this chapter of the book was just to much. Admittedly I did find it comical and fun and it did not keep me from reading further. I laughed out loud several times while reading REASSIGNED and completely enjoyed the book and am anxious for the next installment of this saga.
Now all that being said, the characters in this book are very vividly written and held my attention the whole time. Agent Thunder is a total kick butt fairy I can say I wouldn't take her on as she could inflict some pretty nasty blows. She meets her mate that can match her blow for blow when Ciaran enters the picture. Not only does he set her world to spinning but he leaves her with so many questions that she needs answers for. The mix of these two characters was awesome! I love how REASSIGNED comes together and honestly can say I would recommend this book completely I would however say it may not be appropriate for anyone under the age of 14 due to some of the sexual content. Please take a look at this book and maybe even read it you won't regret it!

*STARRED REVIEW* The conclusion of this volume s title poem finding food / is not a joke. / Living things must eat / or croak with its blunt appraisal of the whey of the world per se, sets the tone of Hauth and Clark s graphic exploration of who eats what. As the poet delicately surveys the somewhat unsavory aspects of survival, the illustrator s hilarious watercolor-and-ink renderings defuse the deadliness of the subject matter. The result is an enriching overview of the natural world spiced with a Dorothy Parker esque sense of the macabre that children will absolutely relish. A telling example is Waste Management, in which a light treatment of the turkey vulture s carrion-loving ways It likes to feast before the worms, / which saves us all from stink and germs is dramatized. Serenely smiling, it pulls ruby, taffy-like sinews from a ribcage while a tiny fly rests on the tip of a cloven hoof separated from its former haunches by a bloody tire track. Other poems look at the wildly diverse ways in which organisms lure or capture their prey; still others break down sophisticated concepts like symbiosis and parasitism in brilliantly accessible terms. Hauth's funny, eloquent poems celebrate the often-grisly realities of the food chain, depicted in Clark's scraggly ink and watercolor illustrations. A mole gags on a banana slug, a rat "gets a hug" from a boa constrictor, and a flattened toad becomes a roadkill restaurant ("In adjoining rooms, they dine al fresco--/ upper thigh for ants, lower thigh for wasps"). Amazing diversity of feeding strategies--and many rhyme!

Concise and interesting descriptions of odd strategies that animals--ranging from sloths to dermestid beetles--use to fill their bellies. There's even a poem about a carnivorous plant--the Venus Fly-Trap! Examples of feeding strategies covered include a description of how the little brown bat turns its body into a sort of bowl to scoop up insects at night, and how the wood turtle stomps the ground with its feet to make a sound like rain that convinces the worms to surface--whereupon the turtle--you guessed it--eats them. And where else are you going to find "species" rhymed with "feces"...? Illustrations are lively--capture the joy and desperation of eating and being eaten, respectively.

Great fun

What a terrific combination of quirky humor, scientific accuracy and beautiful illustrations! Even icky things are fun in this book. Every poem is uniquely laid out on the page with its illustration and many different kinds of rhythms and rhymes are used. Make sure to read all the way to the back of the book for the scientific info on each critter - I finally learned what a phalarope is. This book is good fun for everyone, kids and grown-ups alike. It's a real gift to the field of children's books.
